The following is a text version of the will:

Will of Henry Carter, 1837, Stokes County, NC

In the name of God Amen I Henry Carter of Stokes County and State of North Carolina 
being far advanced in years but in sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the same, 
and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all
men once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and 
form, to wit, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Carter all the property of
every description I now own during her natural life, and at her death to be Equally 
divided between John N. Carter, Nancy Payne, Mary Payne's children, Winston Carter, 
Anderson Carter and George W. Carter, my Sons and Daughters the above named and their 
heirs forever, and lastly I hereby make and appoint my sons Anderson & George W. Carter
my whole and sole Executors to this my last will and Testament in witness whereof. I 
the said Henry Carter have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the 
19th day of January 1837.
